How do I get started?
Go to the "teach speech blog" and click on the category to the right that best suits your child. You will see the blog posts that are appropriate. Then look at the menu bar at the top, look at the drop down menu under "parents" and find the category that best fits your child. If you're not sure which category is right for you, click on the "parents" block and a description of each will pop up. Scroll through the ideas and pick one idea that you think you could implement with your child. Try including that activity once a day. It is preferred to use the same time of day so your child knows what to expect. You could even come up with a cute name and have your child help decorate the area you'll work in that way he/she will get involved too. In the process, don't forget to have fun! Learning while having fun is always a goal of mine.

Does this site replace speech therapy?BY NO MEANS!!! Speech Language Pathologists are trained in the areas of: pragmatics (social rules), articulation (how sounds are pronounced), syntax (grammar), morphology (smallest unit of a word with meaning), semantics (word meaning), vocal quality, fluency (stuttering), and dysphagia (swallowing). They/We can identify weaknesses and know how to bridge the gap from delayed to typical. This site is designed to give parents and therapists ideas - some may be new to you and some you may already be using. These ideas are always meant to be used IN ADDITION TO speech therapy. If your child is not currently enrolled in speech therapy or is not in need of speech therapy, you can still use these ideas. More learning can never hurt a child!

ABOUT ME
First and foremost I am a Christian, wife, and a mother. However, my true passion in the "working world" is speech therapy. My undergraduate major was Deaf Education and my Master's Degree is in Speech Language Pathology. As a military wife, I am always on the move, which has given me opportunities to work in many different settings! I have worked in the following: elementary school, middle school, high school, oral pre-school for kids with cochlear implants or hearing aids (or both), private clinic, and hospital. My varied experiences help me to be more well-rounded and the people I have met along the way have contributed to my knowledge base.
